Players in the top ten are listed only at the top of this sheet,
since there is not enough room to also include them in the full list.
(over for the news)
There were 16 players in attendance when we last met on November 13, 2008.
Congratulations to Betsey for having the high-above-average game last
week, in which she scored 526, 59.9% above her average.
Other high scores: Jamie 638, 570, 510, 503, Joel 549, Carl 519
High losing scores: Judy C. 413 to Judy H. 472, Trx. 412 to Rob W. 424,
Carl 402 to Bruce 430
High rating increases: Judy H. +18, Betsey +16
These are the words challenged or considered last week:
ELT, WOG, DENE, EKER, GAUN, PACY, VEGS, ASPIC, DOXIE, EXITE, TOBEY, EQUIDS,
GITTED, RAFTOR, RECOOP, UNGUES, GIRASOL, ONERIER, PLAQUED, RHODIES,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
(LET TEL), WOG, DENE (NEED), (REEK), GAUN (GUAN), PACY+, ASPIC (PICAS
SPICA), DOXIE (OXIDE), EQUIDS, GITTED+, (COOPER), UNGUES, GIRASOL
(GLORIAS), ONERIER, TEAZLED, ACTIONER+ (ANORETIC CREATION REACTION),
CROAKIER, PRAEFECT (PERFECTA), QUOINING, NEARSIDES (ARSENIDES READINESS)
The words above the line were played and challenged, or at least
considered by someone. Below the line are acceptable words only. When
a considered word is acceptable, it is repeated below the line.
Acceptable anagrams of the considered words are listed below the line
inside of parentheses.
Take your own quiz by covering up the words below the line, and ponder
whether you would challenge or accept each of the above-the-line words.
If you don't want to contaminate your word knowledge, look only below
the line. But if you want to relate the considered words and the results,
it's helpful to look both above and below. For example, in this week's
lists, ELT was challenged, and so it appears above the line, but since it
is not acceptable, only its acceptable anagrams appear below the line.
This club will not meet on 27-Nov-08, Thanksgiving night, but there will
be a SAT - Saturday After Thanksgiving tourney. Email subscribers to this
weekly news have been sent the details. If you would like to see a flyer,
please ask me, Mike W. at wolfberg@alum.mit.edu, to send you one by email.
According to cross-tables.com, among the top 20 players with high rating
gains in the last 12 months are Wayne (+357) and Evans (+323).
At last weekend's First World Players Championship held in Dallas:
Nigel Richards won with a 21-3 +2276 record; the 2nd place finisher
was 17-7 +841, and he is David Eldar, a 19-year-old from Australia,
who finished 10th in the Worlds when he was 16.
Of the 48 participating players, John O. was 23rd.

From a recent CGP posting entitled "Extreme Scrabble":
Photo-shopped or for real? The first one is tame, then it gets wilder.
